As hosts of Sunset Dream, we've created this guide to help our guests make the most of their St John experience. If this is your first trip to the island...don't stress, we are here to answer your questions!
Check-in is 4:00 PM. Your greeter will meet you at the ferry dock and guide you to the unit. Upon arrival the greeter will show you around the property and answer all of your questions
Check-out is 10:00 AM. Housekeeping will arrive at 10:00 AM sharp. Please take all trash to the dumpster when you leave. Turn off the AC and lights and close the blinds.
The tap water at Sunset Dream is filtered and UV treated. It is safe to drink, but bottled water is available for purchase. If you purchase bottled water, we suggest refilling bottles to reduce plastic waste.
There are ice trays and cold packs in the freezer that will keep your cooler of beverages cold all day on the beach.
St John gets electricity from a generation station on St Thomas. The cost to produce and distribute electricity in the islands is very high. We have some of the highest electric rates in the world - right here in paradise! Please help keep costs down by turning off the AC and lights whenever you leave. The AC works great and will cool everything down in a matter of minutes when you return. THANK YOU
If you rent a vehicle, you may park directly beside the unit on the right-hand side of the driveway. Please be sure to stay far enough to the right to allow another vehicle to park on the left.
Hint: If you park along the road around the beaches, be certain your tires and mirror are completely behind the white line, or you may be ticketed or towed.
US cell phone service is pretty reliable. However, sometimes when you are on the north shore beaches, your phone may connect to the tower in the BVIs. Be sure to check with your carrier to avoid international roaming charges. Unless you have to be "connected", place your device in airplane mode before leaving Cruz Bay. You can still take photos without the distraction of text messages and phone calls!
You have several options for buying groceries while on the island. If you rent a jeep on St Thomas, consider stopping at Cost-U-Less on the way to the barge. On St John, there are a couple smaller, but well stocked, grocery stores - Dolphin Market and Starfish. Both sell beer, wine and liquor as well. There is a pharmacy above the Starfish Market in Cruz Bay. You also can use a provisioning service to buy your groceries and stock the unit before you arrive!
Sunset Dream is equipped with folding beach chairs, a cooler and koozies for the beach. One of the most popular activities on the island is snorkeling at the beautiful beaches. Snorkel gear can be rented on a daily/weekly basis at several places in Cruz Bay. For a little extra adventure, look-up the underwater plane wreckage in Cinnamon Bay and head out!
The Virgin Islands have a culture of modesty and respect for the environment and other people. Nudity is not allowed on the beaches. Also, it is customary to great people with a big "Good Morning! Good Morning!" (one is good, two is better!) After lunch, it's "Good Day", "Good Afternoon" or "Good Evening". This is a great habit to take home as well!
Use the contact form to send us any additional questions you may have...we are happy to share our favorite places and things to do, how to use the ferries between St Thomas, St John and the BVIs.
