Famous for its powder-white sand and bright turquoise water, Trunk Bay is one of the most photographed beaches in the Caribbean. The marked underwater snorkeling trail makes it easy and fun for all experience levels. Pro Tip: Check the cruise ship schedule in St Thomas and pick a day when the cruise ships are away. Full facilities. Concessions.

A long, wide beach with steady breezes and plenty of space to spread out. Cinnamon Bay offers good snorkeling, water sports rentals, and food options, making it a great all-day destination. This is one of our personal favorites! Full facilities. Concessions.

Best for: Sea turtles • Families • Easy snorkeling
Known for calm, shallow waters and frequent turtle sightings right off the beach. Maho Bay is ideal for families, beginner snorkelers, and anyone looking for a relaxed, low-effort beach day. Maho has several food trucks with plenty to eat and drink. Full facilities. Concessions.

Best for: Quick beach trips • Snorkeling • Picnics
Conveniently located near Cruz Bay, Hawksnest offers great snorkeling along the rocky edges and shaded picnic tables. It’s a favorite for a short, peaceful beach visit. A very short walk from the parking lot to the beach. Limited Facilities.

Best for: Quiet relaxation • Beach walks • Nature lovers
A serene and spacious beach with gentle waters and fewer crowds. Francis Bay is perfect for long walks, peaceful afternoons, and guests looking to unwind away from busy areas. Pro Tip: There are pebbles along the edge of the water. Walk about half way down the beach to the big rock just out from the water's edge. Usually the bottom is mostly sand there. Limited Facilities.

Reaching Salt Pond Bay requires a short hike, but the payoff is excellent snorkeling and a secluded feel. Nearby trails lead to remote beaches and historic sugar mill ruins. No Facilities.

Best for: Advanced snorkeling • Marine life • Natural beauty
One of the island’s top snorkeling spots, Haulover Bay is known for vibrant coral and abundant fish. It’s less developed, offering a raw and scenic beach experience. No Facilities.

Best for: Couples • Easy access • Swimming
A beautiful beach close to Cruz Bay, accessible by boat or hike. Turn into the Caneel Bay entrance to park and shuttle to the beach (fee required). Honeymoon Beach offers calm water, soft sand, and nearby amenities—perfect for a laid-back romantic outing. Full Facilities. Concessions.

Best for: Snorkeling • Seclusion • Quiet Afternoons
Jumbie Beach is a small, rugged beach known for some of the best snorkeling on St. John. Access requires a short walk down a trail, but the payoff is clear water, vibrant coral, and abundant marine life just offshore. There are no facilities and conditions can be rough at times, making this beach best suited for adventurous guests. Jumbie is another personal favorite! No Facilities.
